Description

Enjoy your delicious Cherry Chocolate Thumbprint Cookies!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup cherry jam
  • Whole maraschino cherries (for topping)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy. Mix in the vanilla extract. Gradually add the all-purpose flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. Shape the Cookies: Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Using your thumb or the back of a small spoon, press a small indentation in the center of each dough ball.
  4. Fill and Bake: Fill each indentation with a small spoonful of cherry jam. Sprinkle chocolate chips around the jam-filled center. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  5. Add Cherries and Cool: Remove from the oven and press a maraschino cherry into the center of each cookie while they are still warm. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. Once cooled, dust with powdered sugar.

Notes

  • Ensure the butter is thoroughly softened before creaming with sugar to achieve a smooth dough.
  • Chill the dough for 30 minutes if it becomes too sticky to handle easily.
  • Experiment with different types of chocolate chips, like dark or white chocolate, for a unique flavor twist.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
