Description
Deliciously crispy fried chicken drumsticks marinated in buttermilk and expertly seasoned for the perfect flavor.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 chicken drumsticks
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Marinate the Chicken: In a large bowl, mix the buttermilk with half of the salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Add the chicken drumsticks, ensuring they are fully submerged in the buttermilk mixture. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
- Prepare the Coating: In another bowl, combine the flour with the remaining salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well.
- Coat the Chicken: Remove the chicken from the marinade, allowing excess buttermilk to drip off. Dredge each drumstick in the flour mixture, pressing firmly to ensure a good coating. Place coated drumsticks on a baking sheet.
- Heat the Oil: In a deep skillet or heavy-bottomed frying pan, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use enough oil to cover the drumsticks halfway.
- Fry the Chicken: Carefully add the drumsticks to the hot oil. Do not overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until the coating is golden brown and the chicken is fully cooked (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 74°C).
- Drain and Serve: Remove fried chicken from the oil and place on a wire rack or paper towels to drain excess oil. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley. Serve hot with mashed potatoes or your choice of sides.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, double dredge the chicken by repeating the buttermilk soak and flour coating process.
- Ensure oil temperature is consistent for even cooking and to prevent the coating from becoming soggy.
- Use a thermometer to check the oil temperature and internal chicken temperature for best results.
