- 2 medium oranges (about 350g)
- 1 cup granulated sugar (200g)
- 1 cup water (240ml)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (5ml)
Instructions
- Wash the oranges thoroughly and slice them into 1/4-inch thick rounds.
- In a medium saucepan, combine sugar and water over medium heat until dissolved; add vanilla extract.
- Add orange slices to the syrup and simmer for 30 minutes until tender and translucent.
- Remove slices with tongs and place them on a wire rack to cool completely.
- For extra shine, dip cooled slices back into the syrup briefly before drying again on the rack.
- Serve immediately or store in an airtight container at room temperature.
Notes
- Make sure to wash the oranges well to remove any wax.
- These candied oranges can be used as a topping for cakes, pancakes, or eaten as is.
