Description
Delicious and elegant tarts made with thinly sliced apples and puff pastry, perfect for a delightful dessert.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large apples (red-skinned varieties like Gala or Fuji work well)
- 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 4 tablespoons apricot jam
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)
Instructions
- Prepare Apples:
- Cut apples in half and remove the core.
- Slice the apples very thinly (about 1/8 inch).
- Place apple slices in a bowl with lemon juice and enough water to cover them. Microwave for about 3 minutes, until the slices are soft and pliable.
- Prepare Jam Mixture:
- In a small bowl, mix the apricot jam with a tablespoon of water.
- Microwave for about a minute to make it easier to spread.
- Prepare Puff Pastry:
- Roll out the puff pastry sheet into a rectangle. The pastry should be about 12 inches long and 9 inches wide.
- Cut the pastry into 6 strips.
- Assemble Tarts:
- Spread a thin layer of the apricot jam on each strip.
- Place apple slices along one lengthwise half of the pastry, overlapping slightly, with the skin side facing out of the pastry.
- Sprinkle lightly with cinnamon.
- Fold up the bottom of the pastry to enclose the apples, creating a long strip.
- Carefully roll each strip, starting from one end, to form a rose shape.
- Tuck the end of the pastry strip underneath to secure.
- Bake:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Place rolled tarts in a muffin pan to maintain shape.
- Bake for about 40-45 minutes, until the pastry is golden and cooked through.
Notes
- Ensure apples are soft before rolling; this prevents cracking.
- Adjust the amount of jam based on sweetness preference.
- Serve warm dusted with powdered sugar or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an indulgent dessert.
