Creamy Macaroni and Cheese

Description

A rich and creamy macaroni and cheese dish made with cheddar cheese and a smooth cheese sauce.


Ingredients

  • 8 ounces uncooked elbow macaroni or large shells
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon dry mustard
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups milk
  • 8 ounces cheddar cheese in small cubes or grated

Instructions

  1. Cook macaroni according to package directions.
  2. In medium saucepan, melt butter over medium-low heat; stir in flour, and cook for 3-5 minutes stirring constantly to form a roux.
  3. Add dry mustard, salt, and pepper; whisk in to combine.
  4. Slowly whisk in milk, and whisk until well-combined.
  5. Cook, whisking regularly, until thickened. You don’t want mixture to boil.
  6. Remove from heat, and stir in cheese a little at a time until fully melted and combined.
  7. Drain macaroni.
  8. Return macaroni to pot, and pour cheese sauce over the top. Toss to combine.

Notes

  • This recipe is a classic comfort food, perfect for family dinners.
  • Feel free to add breadcrumbs on top and bake for a crispy topping.
